I favor single payer systems, but we should recognize that cost reduction inevitably means healthcare professionals -- doctors and nurses, physical therapists, etc, -- will take a stiff cut in pay. This makes me less than thrilled by smug memes like this one. A sacrifice will be required. Face it.
Single-payer systems actually save healthcare professionals money. Without private insurers taking their cut and the costly administrative burden of billing multiple parties, providers can focus on patient care instead of paperwork
Can’t we meet in the middle? Also, maybe if school wasn’t so absurdly expensive, perhaps we’d have more doctors willing to work for more typical US salary levels.
In the richest country on Earth, people should NOT be going bankrupt because they got sick.
Also they need to know when you move to a state with low taxes you get what you pay for. Most of the time your utilities, vehicle renewal or sales tax will be higher and you still get nothing.
It's worse than that. American living in UK with their NHS.
No network. No co pay. No "we don't cover that". Ambulance is free. Fixed price for prescriptions. No cover limit. We're not waiting for treatment any longer than you.
My Healthcare cost is about 1/3rd of the Provincial ( State) Taxes. The horror stories you hear about wait times etc. are the same as US hospitals. Don't abuse the emergency room and only go in an emergency. Many procedures including a by-pass, never an issue.
It would be like costing every taxpayer like an extra quarter per paycheck. To do it. At least that was maybe 20 years ago. So it’s what a dollar now? Either way cheaper than filing for bankruptcy!
I lived in Sweden for 10 years. I was taxed 51% but got everything free - free healthcare so my two hip replacements cost nothing! What the hell is wrong with amerikans?????
Nothing in life is free. You share the cost with your other citizens in higher taxation. But it makes financial sense and I would buy into that in heart beat. The USA has always been stupid about health care. The rich own it and won't let go.
The brainwashing by the capitalists is so thorough that working poor people somehow believe that things like universal health care is a communist plot, despite all the major Western powers already having it.
Not a single MAGA that I ever spoke to watches anything but Fox News & none of them has spoken to someone from Canada or Europe about the healthcare system. I have. It costs them less than our healthcare does. There are sometimes hurtles & delays, but same with our system!
I agree. No government anywhere has managed to keep up with the soaring cost of healthcare. But even delays and waiting times are better than people dying because they can't afford treatments or surgery or medication.
These people will screw themselves over just to make sure someone they think doesn't deserve it doesn't get it. That's how sad & selfish many Americans are.
Americans have already been convinced that they would rather pay more for private insurance because they’re not willing to throw in an extra buck for their neighbor. We are a very selfish society.
We live in the only culture where people boast about how bad they are at math.
A&W couldn't sell a third-pounder that tasted better and cost less than the quarter-pounder because Americans don't understand fractions.

Too bad, such a shame.

Bottom line, the system we have now sucks.
It’s basically…
Patients: Get sick, go bankrupt.
Doctors: Pay expensive malpractice insurance and pray you never mess up.
Who is this good for?
No network. No co pay. No "we don't cover that". Ambulance is free. Fixed price for prescriptions. No cover limit. We're not waiting for treatment any longer than you.
No costs WHATSOEVER.
Some of them think the Earth is flat.
So yeah, you’re right. Good luck.
