Yep, these are big holes in the funding to keep labs and research going. Indirects are higher in the non-educational institutes because our buildings only exist for research purposes. Expect to see big increases in direct costs for new grants, but that won't fix the immediate gap.

To put the NIH cut in context, Boston Children's Hospital got $230M in 2024 from NIH. Assuming a 77% overhead rate*, that's $100M overhead on $130M cost. Now, for same research, they get $20M to keep the labs running, pay staff not directly on grant, etc
