I really wish this country had proper rail service. We like to brag on how great we are as a nation but it takes 3 days by train to get across the country and that’s frankly ridiculous. - ThreadSky

I was reading about why this is on Tumblr the other day. Part of it is our infrastructure desperately needing an overhaul, but the larger part is that the automobile and airplane industries are to blame for the stalled infrastructure growth/decline

If you want to take Amtrak from NC to TX you have to go through Chicago. It's a 52 hour trip one way.
