Welcome to my little side dish of a project exploring past cookbooks. I aim to look at recipes, meal plans, & menus from the 1900s to the 1970s. You can see what books I’m using in my profile. 🧵

You might want to get your hands on this. Used in my family for many decades. This newer edition is basically the same as the 1968 original with just a new section added. The recipes are classic.
I have this cookbook, I think is from 1967. I used it to learn how to cook many things when we were first married. It was ancient and in rough shape even then, now it’s falling to pieces. Still use the double boiler frosting recipe and lots of others.
The Boston Cooking-School Cook Book by Fannie Merritt Farmer, 1896.
The Art of Eating Well by Pellegrino Artusi, 1891. (Italy’s most treasured cookbook)
Modern re-issues available for both.
I have a copy of Joy of Cooking from 1975. I'm planning on posting from that book later this year.
I'd like to find 2 more cookbooks 1 from the 1920s & another from the 1930s.
I have an old book from the 60’s-70’s about homesteading and how to preserve food, keep chickens, all kinds of stuff. It’s interesting but I don’t want to leave my modern house lol
For the record, I am NOT a food specialist in any way. I just find old cookbooks interesting and thought maybe a few other people might, too. It turns out, it seems, you do too.
