In the Victorian era, it was just the opposite blue is for girls and pink was for boys and on a scale of power of colors. Pink is an extremely powerful color.
I feel like this is only really a baby thing because they all look the same. I never remember this mattering much growing up and even less as an adult.
Blue for boys and pink for girls was literally invented for marketing to parents. Kids don't care until they are taught to. Now to blow your mind... The same is true for dresses. Used to be that all kids wore dresses, because they could be worn longer as kids grow up.
