Chronology, yes. And I understand that’s where folks like to start the slide. But Bronson’s character was a hero that was relatable in a way Eastwood’s Dirty Harry wasn’t and couldn’t be. The adult men around me reacted differently to each.
Interesting but I think there has been plenty of adult men that related with Detective Callahan. (I had 2 close friends become police in the mid 70s and I know for sure one could see himself in that mold.) I take your point though; the every-man vs the hardened cynical detective.
Totally agree. As a kid the cops I knew loved Dirty Harry. So did all the other adult men. But the lone Everyman taking justice into his own hands was immediately accessible to everyone.
