Honestly you're right and you should say it. As someone who's been playing the games since GenWun B/W is honestly one of the top 3 gens. I still need to play Scar/Vio (though my friend gave me one of the games)

Even without "first pokemon experience" (well, besides the anime. I LOVE team rocket SO MUCH and always have) I will die on the hill that B&W is an amazing game. But I went in without the bias for the original mons and loved all the "new" ones because so much was so totally new to me.

B/W/B2/W2 had some of the best mon designs, best areas, most interesting story/lore and some of my favorite character designs. The seasons mechanic is one of my favorite gimmicks and I like that it was a soft reboot for the franchise by walling off any of the previous gens until the post game

But I'm also biased again because I didn't need the transfer to get my favorite back, B&W introduced my two all time top ever favorites (and the person who introduced me to the game was breeding for comp and gave me two zorua eggs early, so LMAO)

and scar/vio is amazing. It aws a buggy mess when it came out, yeah. I played it on midnight release. but it was still, even despite that, the most fun i'd ever had in a pokemon game. (still, i'm so glad gamefreak is getting more time to work this time. Devwork is fuckin HARD)

It's common enough for people who played the originals at release like myself to get up on their high horse about it, but b&w turned out to be my favourite entry after decades of these games simply because the narrative and gameplay had cohesion that made it feel like the stakes were meaningful 👍

Favourite colour green and fluffy hair enjoyer may also be a bias factor, but I rarely see people say the things b&w was criticised for at the time (pokemon design opinions, the usual) and mostly just see praise for it now. I just flat out think it's a good game for stimulating the imagination!

Would definitely say you're spot on! I think backlash to something that changes a beloved formula can upset any longstanding fans that might need time to get used to the new and take it for itself...but as it was my first, I only saw an amazing game with great designs and a cool story
