As a person who grew up in the south where the history of slavery was barely taught to have a fictional characters from a kids book just slap you over the head with how much you didnβt knowβ¦. James was a catalyst for me

Also, if you just want a recommendation, I would highly recommend The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro. I bet that would count as literary fantasy.
