An effect, rather than a cause I would say. The right to a kindergarten spot (and the maximum price for attending kindergarten) both came long after I (M34) finished kindergarten. And Norway had been quite egalitarian for a while in the 90s

I'm not sure if this was a cause or an effect, but promoting early universal literacy (like mid- to late- 1900s) I think was a factor.

I can only find the data for Sweden, and that data looks to be rather guesstimated: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/literate-and-illiterate-world-population?country=OWID_WRL~SWE But I know based on historical practices/organization of schools that about 4-5 years of education was universal by the 1860s-1880s

The mix of seasonal absence (going viking) and winter = women, by quiet necessity, assumed the reins of governance from household affairs to the entire village.

They have gender quotas in parliaments so citizens have been able to observe who’s doing a better job and if half the parliament is women you’ll likely have pro equality outcomes

An unprecedentedly long period of economic and social growth from WW2 until now, combined wilth relatively egalitarian societies to begin with (I don’t know Swe and Den as well as Norway, but Norway’s lack of nobility has done something to the mentality I think)

Also strong labour unions and labour movements in general, which have had strong women’s groups internally, and the tripartite model which gave the workers, the employers and the state a forum to discuss and reap the economic benefits of an equality between the genders (larger workforce)

But yes this might not be universally applicable to all the Nordic countries. I’m not sure the labour movement and tripartite system are so big in Iceland, e.g.
