Ella Baker AKA Fundi (Swahili for teacher) founded the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) to organize young sit-in leaders who weren’t prominent at the time for direct action & voter registration. They coordinated the Freedom Rides of 1961 with CORE (Congress of Racial Equality).
