Making a comment on BlueSky is hardly "dying on a hill." Also, we should be pushing free speech forward, not catering to book banners and those worried about "offensive" content.

Are content warnings …. Not free speech? Content warnings aren’t a springboard for book banning, they’re a detailed list of triggers so a person can consciously choose to engage with work or disengage according to their comfort level.

I think they spring from the same impulse as book banning. Furthermore, I'd reiterate my point that if a book's cover blurb says it "is not for the faint of heart or stomach," readers who are easily upset should have the sense to stay away.

Sure. YOU think that. But that’s now how CW’s are used.

And “not for the faint of heart” is exceptionally vague. Maybe I’m okay with gore but not discussions of assault. Maybe I don’t want to engage with gore but I’m okay with the general topic of murder.
