goddamn that is a perfect summary of this policy change by Meta.
Block and ignore.
"People wanna call us the N-word"
"Well, you can't be in an echo chamber"
You and others may just write that off as transphobic and refuse to make concessions, that's your right.
How about debating gender inequality? Affordable healthcare? Domestic violence? Gun violence? Wealth inequality? Those are actual issues worth discussing.
But basically, the first thing would be women's & girl's sports. There is overwhelming 75%/85% public opinion abt who should be able to participate in those. Common sense & fairness thing to most people.
In general, moving slower to gain public acceptance
Which to some degree I get, because some think the gay movement itself was too slow & gradual (but it ended up being effective)
The reason why there is a big backlash now is bc rapid & confrontational demands
Especially around sports. Less than a hundred years ago, it was "common sense" that Black men had an extra leg muscle making them faster. https://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/amp/rcna148437
There've been 'quiet' voices on the Left & among LGBT community saying more conciliatory measured approach, rather than confrontational demands, would be more effective for public support & acceptance.
So yeah, what are YOU willing to give up?
