Unpopular take- a VERY left pal of mine who has stage 4 cancer was an Iowa friend of the guy killed and says he was great and was an unsung hero of pandemic. It pains me to say that because I’ve also enjoyed the antihero dark comedy w/ the shooter.

I think your friend with stage 4 cancer is prob very angry. I'm not surprised, but it's not really a full on folk hero moment. It's just the person he murdered killed more ppl than he ever did. It's no wonder ppl are having mixed reactions.
People from Iowa talk about Iowa values etc. They both grew up in a small town there. Now, did the machine create a monster? I don’t know. The whole structure of health care in the US is terrible. From birth to 25 that guy was a hero to the people who knew him, farm kid, brilliant and hard working.
A lot of GenX kids were on the same track as CEO guy and just were not as talented and didn’t work as hard. Shooter raises other worries for a dad. Top schools etc but it looks like he fell into the cyber abyss. As excruciating as health care is it’s tragic to go from soccer stud to killer.
The individual who maintains a pleasant public face while killing people is far more insidious and vile than the individual who boldly kills in public. Both are bad, one is far worse.
I’m not talking about a pleasant public face. Arguably according to a trusted liberal friend with terminal cancer, that guy saved thousands of lives by figuring out how to fund payroll during the pandemic and was working on the inside for the better. He was wealthy but humble - allegedly.
He used AI to make judgments on ppls' lives and some of the stories are horrific. I'm not likely to buy "he was a good guy" when so many suffered under the policies he helped create.
Not a “Leftist” anonymous one. But a loud liberal democrat. I’m not sure you exist but you clearly are not open to discussing what you believe you’re right about. Standard cognitive dissonance social media. Onward.
I’m not trying to pick a fight but one of the horrors of social media is narratives that ignore complexity and at a minimum I have a trusted voice telling me at a minimum that we/I have it wrong - Luigi is the fubar rich kid and the deceased was a middle class farm boy done well.
Alarming to me is the rabbit hole this wealthy kid fell down online as his country club parents appeared to go about their GOP lives. How about we revive antitrust law to take these mega corporations down instead of meming a lost soul redditor?
