Correct: At the primary, you request one party's ballot, which does not register you as a party member.

Anyway, I occasionally do see a correction or clarification that runs under a reader letter, which has the effect of undermining the letter, and I assume the only reason they print the letter in those cases is to deliver the lesson provided by their correction

Yeah, they had to make room for another Sharon Carlson of Andover letter.
