If we didn’t know Studio Kara was involved I might be more inclined to agree, but there’s absolutely a ton of Evangelion inspiration here that probably happened parallel from RfV.
But if there’s some feedback or they wanted to nudge it in that direction anyway, I wouldn’t be too surprised.
Its honestly probably just the case that the original rx-78 was drawn in 1979 and now there's nearly 50 years of advancement in animation, some of which involves computers, allowing for more nuance and detail. The rfv gundam had a ton of detail and the gquuux rx-78 has more detail than yhe original.
While i love the rfv design (so ugly, so much detail) i wish it was closer to the original design. Glad the gquuux gundam exists to sorta bridge the gap.
I’ll be honest that I really hated the RfV suits at first reveal (made me immediately think of the early BayVerse Transformers movies which I despised). But I’ve warmed to them from the actual show and the stellar model kits.
Loved GQuuuuuuX from day one though. Incredible design.
My philosophy as someone who primarily knows gundam from the model kits, i saw gquuux and went "this thing looks like nothing on my shelf, i simply must have it." Every other kit from the line is also amazing looking; the red gundam and its bits looks so fucking good, and the police zaku is amazing.
