I really like the way you're thinking about this, and I think your points for why Zustand, Jotai, and Valtio will remain relevant are meaningful even today.

I see more and more people saying they don't need state management, even without React Compiler. I think React has come far enough that many people are correct about this. But there are so many benefits beyond render optimization to using defined patterns to manage your state.

Your libraries (and many others) provide a good happy path for software engineers to reason about their work, and have others collaborate on it.

I think we'll see more people forgo third party solutions. But I think larger teams will continue to reach for something.

My take is that there’s a role for these libraries but ideally they would use context and state under the hood. There are blockers to that today, but maybe the compiler helps with that.

I don’t think I agree that the main reason for global state libraries is perf. When fluxy libraries first came out it was to make updates easier to reason about in one place/pattern and re-use state across the app.

I agree. I think the strongest use case is for enforcing good patterns and propagating useful tooling.

Yeah we’d have to totally rewrite MST for that haha. I think that also couples to React a little too tightly. But I want MST to use React primitives at some kind of integration layer (maybe that’s what you meant?)
