I think that this is open to debate by physicists.
At this scale we think of energy waves travelling in straight lines.
The USS Enterprise uses photon torpedoes which presumably are full of photons or particles.
Carbon arc lamps produce actinic rays that we never hear about nowadays.

Couldn't work out how this lovely light patch was on the shaded side of the tree. Then realised it was a reflection off a window. Light is some amazing stuff
