It's stupid. USB-A has become the de facto standard and it won't change for many years (and so, there will be two standards).
Do you think that all train and bus operators, hotels and other public spaces who put USB-A plugs will change them soon? Do you think it would be a good idea?

Ill give you a hint: 🇪🇺
And ur also completely ignoring the "charging port" part btw.
Anyway, our newer busses and trains already have USB-A and USB-C ;)
I'm not ignoring the "charging port" part. But we are commenting on a communication of the Commission mentioning "chargers", not "charging ports".
(Yes, I know about the standard.)
why does the port type on the charger even matter? just use a different cable 🤷♂️
The EU "solving" a problem that has already gone away.
The e-waste problem has already gone away because chargers were already USB-A. Mandating the device socket to one standard will do nothing to reduce e-waste, cables are basically consumables, this will not change.
Because EU announced YEARS AGO that they were going to standardize the port design and that all manufactorers would be required to adopt the standard.
Today marks the end of the transition period. The problem went away 100% because of the EU initiative.
💪🏻💪🏻 eu, uselessness.
or if there were no rules (as seems you'd prefer) 3 different chargers +cables?
Do u come from 1998?
Bc rn Apple was using lightning, all others usb-c
And usb A as standard on the power supplies, cars, trains, planes etc
Enjoy
Then once u have the usb C everywhere u will discover that the power supply of a dell does not with for a Mac book air and vice versa due to the different power (just saw this afternoon)
Enjoy ur cables
well, yes often those 10cm long thin cables u get with stuff like bike lights will deliver the small amount of power needed for the product it came with, but will disappoint if your trying to fast charge a phone or run a laptop. but that's the same with micro etc.
as it happens the charger for a dell laptop we have here does charge my macbook. via usb-c. (usb-pd)
Once again, use the Mac book air usb-c with a dell… no charge bc the power supply has no enough power. Now use the dell power supply with the macbook, no charge either
Enjoy while u change all cars and trains 😂
