The thing that people have with their childhood perceptions of dimensions (i.e this place looked much bigger when I was a kid) I have with tim hecker albums "wasn't this more colourful, bigger? every time! and it's not from that long ago.

my mother had a recording of Mars the Bringer of War, conducted by Previn, recorded in '38. in my memory, that version's tempo & arranging is "correct". so whenever I hear a modern orchestra play it, they always sound too fast, too sloppy, etc. lol
