I'd bet less than an ambulance ride, medical costs and government funded burial. I can't find it but I remember reading how much one overdose death costs and it was a lot of money. Prevention is a much better and cheaper way to go. 👍🏻

There's no real penalty to embezzling. You have to be really egregious to go to prison and then its only for like a year or less. Get a fine and you pay a fraction of what you embezzled. It's absolutely bonkers.

Safe consumption sites are destroying neighbourhoods because the government doesn’t want to fund the rest of the important work to actually get these people off drugs permanently. Taxpayers don’t want to fund it, they just want the (problem) people to go away.

I have lived near the one downtown calgary. The "zombies" usually just ask if you have a lighter or some change.
I used to live in Forest lawn. Watching and calling 911 while someone is doing CPR on someone and watching them die before the ambulance gets there is 100% worse.

Crime rates don't increase, if anything they slightly decrease in those areas. Does it make people uncomfortable? Absolutely, I'm a 5 foot 0 woman in my 20s, I wouldn't walk alone by the area at night. But I wouldn't have in that area before the center opened either. They also have a huge impact

Hospitals also attract drug users, homeless people, people with problems with the criminal justice system and people with mental issues. Homeless shelters, half-way houses, too. We have them all in our area. Are there issues, yes every once in a while, but these people have been here for years..

I know some areas that have been real problems with people with all sorts of social needs. The ByWard in Ottawa is a good example. The problem isn't safe injection the problem is the Ontario government doesn't give a crap about these people.

Both are better, yes. They aren’t mutually exclusive. SCS help people stay alive. Proving the sample is ‘safe’ and free of adulterants goes a long way to preventing overdose deaths. This small step of keeping people alive and safe goes a long way to giving those users the choice.

Supervised injection sites can be pathways to rehab. Users interact with the site's healthcare workers, see that people care about them, and come to trust them and open up to them. Then workers can inform them about options, encourage them to try quitting and connect them to rehab programs.

When I was using before I entered recovery, if I knew there was fentanyl in my drugs the answer would be zero. Even in my most desperate state, I never wanted to die, just wanted to not feel what I was feeling. That's just me though so I can't speak for everyone.

It relied on people sending them samples, primarily.
