@beynate.bsky.social is exactly correct. Private developers can’t generate sufficient profits building social housing or less-expensive residential real estate. Without provincial support, it simply won’t happen. And it must.

I live in a nice neighbourhood, in Kitchener, built in the 70s. Houses are coming up for sale at a pretty good pace. Then they are bought and rented out. It’s sickening. One house that has been split in 2 (lots of those), is renting the basement for 2900/month. How is this allowed?

We had that in our east end Ottawa neighbourhood- bungalow divided into 2 apartments top $3200/month and basement $2900 or $3000 a month and neither had access to the garage. Plus driveway was only for the main floor apartment. WTF??
