Yes, but part of the reason is that they’ve lowered the obstacles that are required to continue through the recruiting process. They used to roadblock certain issues (high anxiety, for example) until thoroughly vetted. Now they assume the risks involved.

I don't think anything is up that we don't already know about. USA has become a threat. They are partnered with Russia and Israel - the world's biggest war criminals - in being that threat. We would have to be insane not to respond appropriately to that very real threat.

The obvious answer is Canadian patriotism is higher now than during the 2010 Olympics. Possibly matching levels not seen since WW2.
An awareness of the geopolitical realities.
We don't have enough sailors to deploy and operate all the ships we currently have. Recruitment is needed

The U.S. is no longer our allie. They have switched sides. If we cut off aluminum & steel to the U.S. it will hurt them, especially in defense building.
