I mean yes, but also subscription fees for libraries to provide access to periodicals and journals are exorbitant! We also need quality open access/public journalism & research. Libraries are great potential hosts for this too, but are not positioned to be the creators.

Hit up your local university or public library chat and/or email reference services. Request books you want to read... Often there is a form for that. Use digital resources. Usage numbers of all kinds helps libraries justify their existence. Do your part ❤️

I have had students say they "can't afford to buy the books they need for a research paper." I repress the desire to roll my eyes & just show them how to use the uni library. "You mean they let you use all the books for FREE?" Oh, you sweet summer child. That's part of your tuition. MAKE USE OF IT!

That is a good approach! I am using a book that has an electronic license for multiple borrowers, so I didn't order the text -- I told students to use the library copy. All the supplemental reading is linked, as well as the names of the subject-area librarians and the site research specialists.

Most public and university libraries have very large electronic collections (although universities may limit off-campus access to some databases to students, staff, and faculty even if they give reader cards to the public). Public libraries have Libby, Hoopla etc.

As someone who goes to libraries a lot, I can tell you they have gotten more busy. There's a lot of homeless there, but also families, students, older people. There's a lot of community events that happen at the library on weekends, classes during the week.

Libraries have become the spot.
