"Transphobia isn't that bad" transphobia motivated the British Crown to veto a bill for political reasons for the first time in three centuries, but thanks for your input

In fact should a case happen to prove it's not at odds (the sp could take it further but refused) then it would automatically be given to the king to sign
Scotland passed the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill in early 2023. The UK Secretary of State for Scotland immediately made an order under the Scotland Act 1998 s 35, preventing the Bill from receiving Royal Assent.
Prior to that, the most recent time a bill had been refused the assent of the current Crown was 11 March 1708, when Anne Stuart, Queen of Great Britain, on the advice of her ministers, refused assent to the Scotch Militia Bill 1708.
For the record, she vetoed a Scottish militia because a French invasion fleet had abruptly appeared, and she thought the Scots might prove disloyal because the French and the Jacobites were in league. In short, that time, it took a war. This time they just hate us more than that.
I mean, it was less than a year after the Union and the same year as a major Jacobite rising. Don't think the UK government can use those excuses in the 2020s - although I wouldn't put it past them 😁
