Afaik, it is a free to-play game where players do battle with one another using an array of military vehicles. Tanks, aircraft, ships etc. There are both new(er) and historic vehicles to choose from.

And because some people want to win internet arguments so badly, they leak those documents.

War thunder is free to play but if you want to play modern vehicles plan on paying 60 bucks a pop. Otherwise you're starting off with pre-World war II vehicles and grinding your way up and it's a huge long difficult grind to get to the top to your vehicles without paying a lot of money.
