The constitution has a system in place for a crisis like this, and that system is impeachment and removal from office. That's the mechanism by which this kind of a crisis is supposed to be resolved.

The impeachment ship sailed years ago, with GOP shame in its wake. If you’re in a position to do so — and since you’re teaching conlaw at a well-regarded law school, you *are* — you and your colleagues need to start coming up with concrete strategies rather than rose-tinted rituals.

I've been surprised to find that I kind of enjoy teaching it right now. I guess this stuff is so on my mind anyway, that it's good to have a place where I can constructively discuss some of these issues & help students understand them. (Though of course a lot of the class is more standard fare).

Trump - or the people around Trump - have been clever about this. But it's a strategy that has been pursued over decades. Congress and the Supreme Court are the principal restraints on unlimited executive power. The GOP first paralysed Congress, and then packed the Supreme Court. 1/2

I feel like there should be a focused, persistent campaign on moveable Rs in the House and in the Senate. It may not work before 2026, but not attempting is delinquent. Murkowski practically begging for backup in last 24 hours.

I hope that the study of history -- hopefully in the U.S., but at minimum *somewhere* -- remains intact and robust. If it does, then it will not judge kindly the craven legislators who could have stopped this and just ... didn't wanna.
