Pretty much the only female character is Isabella Rossellini as the nun in charge of catering. Her role amounts to waltzing in to accuse a cardinal of being a wrong un in front of everyone and then flouncing out again…
I guessed the ending about two thirds of the way through but that’s ok. The cast is excellent and the film draws you in. The atmosphere stays on the right side of melodrama. (Ends)
