I have looked up my state pension contributions it looks like I will have paid one year too much. My good friends have had to top up by a year or two having taken early retirement in one case and extended time periods overseas in the other case, my self included.

ITV news traveller travel insurance claim turned down as hadn't told them re HRT. I had similar experience with taking iron pills and pills taken v steroid, meds unchanged but reason now osteopenia. very common things most wouldn't think to update company. Can you do something re this issue pls.

Excellent - please cover those who were 'opted out' for long periods. For example my record shows 35 years of contributions - is there any point filling in gaps ?

The short answer is there may be. You need to find out how much you are going to get now, and if it is short on the maximum you may want to make voluntary contributions. Sign up for Govt Gateway.
Watch the program and then if you still aren't sure, go to CAB or a tax advisor. Good luck.

But if you have worked abroad for the past 30 yrs then you pay class 2. I just paid 12 yrs worth for less then £2000 yesterday. So for others it is worth it, especially if you are in your 50s and miss many yrs contributions

Called the helpline a week ago with my mum. Spent 45 minutes on hold before speaking to someone. Was told that they’d send out the letter with payment references to use… within 28 working days! But that might only arrive after the deadline has passed, I said; sorry, said the person at the other end.

I had two years eligible at £700 in total and turn 40 shortly, so figured I may as well. It’s an odd scenario as most likely I’ll be working past the date needed but it gives me security if anything unplanned happens in terms of work or if I feel I can retire early on my private pension

Don't do it. It's a waste of money. It means if you get full state pension you will miss out on other benefits such as the winter fuel payment, maybe housing benefit if you rent and council tax support. Keep your money and spend it wisley now not later. You could die before reaching pension age.

I have tried today to make some contributions ( I am 7 years short I am 67 ), I am already in receipt of State Pension. I have wait for HMRC to send me a letter ( in 28 working days) showing what I can claim and witha reference to enable it. I hope it won’t be too late!
