painters & traditional artists, or will it be talked about it at length? It’ll likely be a niche realm of study, but there’s just such a HUGE amount of it compared to fanart output prior to the advent of the Internet and digital art. Fascinating 💖

I can absolutely see it being at the very least a niche study.
Like there will be at least 1 professor at some university who will teach some senior level class on the history of fanart in the early 21st century and it’s their passion LMAO
It’s also been a vehicle to spread political messages (i.e. marriage equality, pro-Palestine support, etc), as well as a form of escapism during turbulent times such as these. Maybe I’ll still be an art historian in next lives and will be able to study it myself!
I can't know how it will be regarded in the future, but what I can tell you is that even now there's a huge body of sociological academic work that looks at fandom spaces and fanworks 🥹 They're largely regarded as very interesting transformative spaces that are absolutely worth studying🥹
Omg thank you?? This is so nice 🥲💖 I’m just really fascinated by this stuff! And I’m gonna make myself some egg drop soup, so I’ll eat something good! You have a nice day too, okay? 💖
I am!! I’m not currently working in a relevant career bc I wanted to prioritize community support rn, but I actually have a masters in it! 😊 my primary areas of research have been in queer theory and feminist theory, often with a focus on horror art! 💖
