It’s too bad. Seeing places acts in a “self preserving” way of “well, that’s too bad, but as long as we can weather the storm…” then out pops a situation they can’t weather. But I get the sense of betrayal.

Part of me understands it but part of me feels the betrayal, especially when it comes to trainees. They needed to know the university cares about their continuity and well-being. This is why I say significant damage has already been done, but thankfully people like us can let them know they matter.

Every day I feel knocked back. I want to support peers and friends, I want to keep grinding forward building my own lab. But when HHMI cuts, NSF, NIH it’s hard to do justice to each of them. I’ve not heard anything about the latest HHMI cut from our institution 👀

That’s truly so generous of you to say you understand. My only hope is that people recognize that not everyone is so generous and this behavior causes all of the “leaning out”, “on vacation for the next 4 years” that we are seeing.
