Yep. Reading that article from a while back from Variety, I was shocked with how tone deaf Amazon execs came off. And based on their recent track records with adaptations (Rings of Power being the biggest issue) I have very little faith in Amazon.

I haven't seen it yet but it's on my list. HOWEVER, I am aware that that was Donald Glover's project and his team. There's a stark difference between that and how Amazon generally tends to work on IP.

Is it though? The sentiment seems to be that these projects are getting creative leeway. Invincible, The Boys, even LOTR have been given freedom to work. Are there examples or other IPs they’ve mismanaged due to lack of creative control?

The issue isn't LACK of creative control, it's that they have a habit of farming out bigger IPs to show runners who end up putting out mediocre results (Wheel of Time, Rings of Power, Yakuza). While Invincible and The Boys are big now, I wouldn't say that they were super big prior to the shows.

You could argue that the Yakuza series isn't as big as the others, but as a fan of the games I was ashamed of how bad it was. But ultimately it comes down to Amazon prioritizing a lot of content over quality.

Hmm. Well whether Invincible and The Boys were “big” when they dropped isn’t really what matters. The question is if they’re good. IMO they were/are. I will defend LOTR as well. Certainly improving. I’m just not so down on this news. Time will tell but at least it’s not Netflix.
