Not everyone has a safety net. Thanks to my aunt and uncle who let me stay in their house for 3 months while they were in Michigan. Made all the difference.
When you're not rich, things can change very quickly and leave you in a desperate situation. Not everyone has a big safety net, even if they look well off.
Most people could not keep themselves homed if they had one serious event; an illness, an accident, loss of job. Those things can happen anytime to anyone through no fault of their own.
Exactly! One of my friends had a cardiac event and went in the hospital for open heart surgery. She had to go to therapy, leaving the hospital, and they evicted her while she was gone because she hadn't paid her rent. Thankfully, she had a strong circle of friends to help her.
We had a big savings acct, my husband had a great job and fabulous insurance. He got cancer, did all the tx but died. It wiped us out. I had 12 payments left on the house and damn near lost it. Took me years to clear that debt. We’re all just one catastrophe from disaster.
