I meant it more in a "do it to fail" way. Like an artistic exercise to really see what goes into the art and the process of making it rather than actually fully doing it. Sounds douchy and in retrospect kinda dumb but yeah.
I’ve been really enjoying watching you respond to people who insist that you should cover/write metal material by essentially saying “I am John Darnielle.”
My brother still laughs at me because when he was first introducing Nevermore to me, I said, "Can the singer HEAR the music he's singing along to? Cuz it doesn't seem like it." Of course, now I love it.
Tbf, the metallum review scores bear out your hot take (EoR: 79%, while DHiaDW is at 74%). Not a rock solid metric, but y’know. For what it’s worth, I appreciate when music that’s so instrumentally dense can reign itself in, so EoR’s 40minute runtime makes a strong case for it as the better record.
I only recall hearing one Loomis solo album & I wasn't overly impressed by it but he's done solid work with a few other bands as a guest.
Just not sure how Nevermore would go without key members
the loomis solo joints feel more open to major key soaring shredder tunes & when I saw him tour solo it was like that, too -- pretty throwback to the days when you could find Marty Friedman records in the racks. Of course it also has the dense chord stuff but I think solo frees him some.
I looked at this contents page and said, man, those are some tMG titles. Probably says more about me than you really. Credit to Prof Rodney Jones and his 1985 collection The Unborn

Would be interested to hear how Nevermore could go without Dane but I'd also have strong opinions on it.
