Are the more front facing 'eyes' actual eyes, or false eyes used for intimidation purposes?

It's not as much eyes as it is an open, see-through nostril like some vultures have

This is a really rad clever design, love the aspect of showing a “face” to those who you don’t trust and show the real one to those who you do
