Nah, if anything there’s a common understanding that leftists are not reliable for political goals. Unfortunately US leftists prove this with their voting record, hostile political spaces, and repeated up lifting of candidates that have serious flaws.
Sinema, Fetterman, were lifted up by leftists. Bernie is still lifted up by leftist despite his constant refusal to address that Trump’s base is fueled by racism and the racist comments he continues to make. Fetterman had a publicly known racist attack on a jogger when he ran in the primary.
This is because leftism in the U.S. is wrapped up in white identity and defined politically by white people in the political space. Many Dems don’t support leftists a plurality of the time because they would ultimately be rejected in an election = our country is right leaning becuz of racism.
Also most lefties I know are very upset with Sanders and AOC because they’re Zionists. We aren’t idolizing him and didn’t in 16 or 20, he was just the best option available at the time. He WAS the compromise. But the DNC blocked him.
You are really demonstrating why leftists are en masse breaking away from solidarity with Democrats: you clearly have nothing but contempt for us, you demand we do all the compromising, and you blame us for our actions while refusing to analyze and understand those actions.
2024 demonstrated Democrats can’t win without leftist support AND that reaching right to appeal to “swing voters” is a failing strategy. Failing to learn from those lessons is a surefire way to ensure the fascists keep winning.
No, I think they look at places like the South and the rural Midwest and conclude that the policies might be popular in isolation, but the candidates who espouse them and the philosophy as a whole have too many opponents. They’re just too easily demonized to win a nationwide race.
Progressive economic policies may get infrequent voters on the left to show up, but they also turn frequent swing voters from D to R. And those infrequent leftist voters just aren’t consistent enough to rely on.
Ah, those mythical “swing voters” - I do not believe such people exist anymore. At one time perhaps, but in modern highly-polarized races, that’s just not a thing.
And if the VBNMW crowd really did back those leftist candidates, why would they not still win national elections? That’s illogical.
