So does competence. Each year, after the end of “wildfire season,” we furlough cal fire people and have them go on unemployment to avoid paying them. Climate change created the circumstances for this fire, but local/state incompetence is why it spread.

That said, repubs would have been 5x worse.

By the way, the total number of Calfire employees may be ~10k, but many of them are “seasonal” employees. Sadly, fire season is year round in California.

I didn’t say, “newsom is a liar.” I said that local and state incompetence is also to blame. For instance, giving away billions before an election as a “gas tax refund” but not fully funding cal fire.

Yes, repubs are terrible, but we can’t be so tribalistic that we ignore the shortcomings of dems.
