BREAKING: Australia has introduced a new bill that will limit the total spending on a party by billionaires like Elon Musk to Just $20,000

This will ban billionaires from single-handedly buying Elections in Australia.

So, all we need to do is win back control of the government, while fighting a violent and authoritarian regime and, quite possibly, a world war, during a time in which we cannot trust our neighbors (at least I know 100% that I cannot trust mine), and pass a similar law. This is a very tall order.

Election laws in Canada restrict individuals to contributioning just $1725 per election cycle. Corporations and Trade Unions can't make any contributions whatsoever.
Also, no PACs allowed.

Total spend by each party is capped at just over $30m per election cycle. During our last federal election the total spend by all parties was just a little over $80m. .

We would have had fair elections, but 2 Democrats voted against the Voting Right Act that would have kept dark money out. Add to it the SCOTUS bad ruling that reversed century-old campaign finance restrictions & enabled corporations and other outside groups to spend unlimited funds on elections.

In the US the Supreme Court held in Citizen’s United that corporations are people and have free speech under the first amendment. They also held that money is considered free speech.

No PACs. Rupert Murdoch is abominable & he should be barred from everywhere. There are no big rallies either most politics are done through interviews & advertising. The Prime Minister is chosen by the winning party & if they don’t perform another person can be chosen. So no 4 yrs of one person.

There are issues with the Aus law due to our preferential voting system and more local independents. I still however believe private money in politics, like America has currently, can not be allowed to take hold.

No gerrymandering with straight boundaries on all areas. No voter suppression as everyone has to vote. People can get a voting paper to avoid the fine but not fill it out. It’s called a donkey vote. Early voting and mail in voting are available and all votes are paper votes with no voting machines.
