The gun violence rate peaked in the early 90s. A large chunk of those victims were urban kids of color. You just weren't aware of the scale of the violence.

Well, I give you that, but those were rarely done in mass shootings at schools… but yes, that was completely ignored as well. So thank you for that reminder. It’s easy for people to ignore violence when it isn’t happening to them- and you were right to bring it up, and I was wrong for not
Eh it depends on how you define mass shootings. The FBI definition is 4 victims. That wasn't terribly rare. What was rare was white suburban kids shooting other white suburban kids. That's why Columbine was such a shock. People had grown numb to urban violence but that was new.
It’s the difference between a drive by that targets specific people vs walking into a store and unloading a magazine… seems very similar, but not… if that makes sense
When I’m talking mass shootings, I’m talking people whose only goal is death and destruction in mass. They don’t have a specific target. Gang violence is generally done with the intention of hitting a specific target. However, innocent bystanders were/are definitely killed… and often.
Then there are hardly any mass shootings. Most of the gun incidents at schools look more like gang or just interpersonal violence then say the Las Vegas tower shooter just gunning down a crowd. Also most school shooters were bullied or other adverse childhood experiences and had targets.
And I honestly have no idea what this conversation was originally about 🤔 um… this is going to sound stupid because this app doesn’t let me open the whole conversation… but what the hell were we originally talking about?
No… I think we’re getting too bogged down in semantics. But Vegas is a good example, aurora, sandy hook, there have been incidents of people just walking into grocery stores and opening fire on people they don’t know. There are plenty of examples
