Ah! Yes, that’s likely the case. I distinctly remember it saying a disease “linked to rodents” and I immediately thought hantavirus, but it was weird that it wasn’t just in the headline. You’re probably right about the story being updated once it was made known.

What will happen to sociology has been a real question. At my undergrad alma mater, courses on structural racism have long been an integral part of that program (& affinity groups are a huge deal), but T. has suggested he'll w/hold federal funds to colleges that allow those courses to continue.

2/ I'm far less worried about anthropology (which was one of my three undergraduate majors), but sociology (both the field & in education) could be in some trouble. Historically, many sociologists work under government contracts.

Anthropology does, too, in the form of archaeology. How could this impact Tribal consultation as required by NHPA and other statutes? Or just 106 consultations overall? My agency employees more archaeologists than sociologists.

I can def. see it having a large negative effect on the field of anthropology (esp. physical anthropology & archeology), as well as on graduate education, but I don't know that it would have affected my *undergrad* major courswork at all; it would have caused massive issues for my sociology classes.
