The infuriating thing is that America is just a gentleman’s agreement. The only real remedy for something like this was impeachment after Jan 6 and the GOP absolutely failed. The criminal trials were never going to move fast enough having to prove so much and clear so many hurdles.

I know that might seem like a cop out or like I’m defending Garland. But the reality is just that the courts move slowly and on a very, very rigorous standard. Impeachment and conviction was the tool to use and the GOP sank it successfully.

I feel weird since i mostly shitpost by graduate work is on Korean Democratization in the 80s. People protesting right now were also some of the same people making molotov cocktails against the military dictatorship in the 80s. Korean commitment to democracy is hard fought and still in living memory

TBF, the president is so deeply unpopular that the only person this would benefit is him. If anything opposing this and giving impassioned speeches (and being seen climbing over the walls to get in to vote) is going to boost their careers.
