One of the benefits of being a Hindi speaker is being able to watch A:TLA and realise that the king of the Earth kingdom was literally named King Earth

For my own TTRPG stuff I'm not above dropping terms into Google Translate and clicking through languages until something catches me. But for something published? I feel like maybe I'd better run it through some simulated linguistic drift...
My favorite experience like that was a guy my father knew who was from Kenya.
It's 1983. Return of the Jedi is in theaters. Lando Calrissian is piloting the Millennium Falcon with his co-pilot Nien Nubb. The theater is tense, and my dad's friend erupts in laughter for reasons unknown.
Turns out ol' Nubb was speaking Kikuyu, and what he said was such a non-sequitor that my dad's friend just lost his mind right there in theater. Opening weekend! The poor guy!
The translation was something like "What are you doing over there? Come here!"
Curious which king? I know Kuei is an anglicized version of the mandarin for “chief,” and now I’m curious if the same holds true for all the various names in the series.
I’m sorry to bother you, my friend. I hope you can help me with a donation for my campaign

I'm gonna be so fuckin fr this is how I name everything if I'm not just going on what sounds good.
"What should I name this paladin of the sun god? Cyrus Anar! How'd I come up with that? Cyrus --persian name meaning sun! Anar--Tolkien elvish word for sun!..."
Reminds me of how many Dutch last names (enforced by Napoleonic French occupation) came from simplicity ("I'm a miller, so I'll be Molenaar") or straight up lolz ("Naaktgeboren, i.e. born nude)
Yup. I have a similar thing from having at least a working grasp of Latin and Greek, with bits and pieces of assorted bits of other medieval languages. Names both in real life and stories get infinitely funnier when you know what they mean.
