i keep reading posts from people getting laid off in genuinely every possible tech industry you can imagine and it's so fucking insane that the thing people have to worry about isn't "can an AI do my job" but "can a very stupid person convince my boss that an AI can do my job"

I think the funniest (and also sad) part of this is that bosses have no tolerance for the investment of let’s keep the human around for a while as a redundancy in case the AI “replacement” partially or fully fails. Which it always will.

I was with a company that was forced into a merger by a federal agency to preserve service to region. There was some overlap. It took 3 years for HR to evaluate redundancies and lay off really not that many people. You don’t just fire people randomly.
