Folks who have joint issues / frozen shoulder: what bags are you carrying to work? I can't do backpacks (worsens my hip pain) and it's annoying carrying a briefcase in my hand all the time.

my favorites are definitely backpacks which can close around the chest. takes a lot of weight off of the shoulders (and I believe also hips? never thought about it that way)
Otherwise I'd consider some kind of briefcase on wheels.
Both my shoulders went. After I did some research I discovered it is linked to peri menopause. Another thing nobody in the medical profession tells you. I couldn't put my own bra on or off, brush my hair etc. Had steroids injections in both shoulders. Given some simple physio exercises. And 👇🏼
Oh and the steroids injections didn't help with a cure but did help with the pain and inflammation. Big ass needle though. Right between the ball and joint of your shoulder.
2 years on full function on the left still some to go on the right. Anyway I couldn't handle a bag because of restricted movement so I would suggest something on wheels. Or a bumbag for small items like phone, keys etc.
I don’t know from experience, but what about a messenger bag or some sort of cross-body bag that distributes the weight a little? Though possibly getting it cross-body might not work…
I spent a few years not taking a bag in at all. Desktop in the office, and not carrying the same three unread books around for years. Revolutionary, I know.
I know you said no backpack but when I had shoulder issues last year I had to train myself to take almost nothing and had luck with the Calpak Kaya laptop backpack with top handle.
I have shoulder and hip pain too. The bag I found doesn't exacerbate my pain, but it's a backpack so it may not work for you. With the chest/waist straps secured it doesn't put weight on my hips. Sharing it just in case you find it useful. I hope you find a solution!
There seem to be an increasing number of bags and cases on wheels. I have one. Some of them are pretty clever in folding down for storage.
The point is to try and get weight off your body. Carrying a case is always going to feed down through your hip.
Thanks!! I have an appointment in a few weeks to get assessed. The pain is getting worse. Can't reach up in a cabinet to get a dish, can't sleep on that side, can't carry a purse lol
Physiotherapy with homework and loxiprophene pills/patches got me out of a similar shoulder problem last year so I wish you well from the other side. Take care and get care 🫶
