To be fair, Linux also has file path length limits too, it's just 4096 vs Windows' 256

IIRC it was only 64 in DOS, but it was less of a problem back then b/c of the old 8.3 character naming limit & drives just not being that big. Long file names + short path length limits are just a recipe for trouble.

W11 File explorer has been horrendous for me. I was browsing a bunch of audio files the other day and it just kept consistently crashing.

Not surprising, unfortunately. I'm actually working on a thumbnail shell extension right now and it seems that the 24H2 update messed up the internal Windows thumbnail cache somehow. Windows is a hot mess these days 😕
