When the UK left the EU a disproportionate number of A&E staff left, often after threats and offensive behaviour from patients. A&E is the least popular specialty. It's very stressful and involves irregular hours, which any doctor will tell you reduces life expectancy.

Someone from the UK showed me this article or a similar version of it. I found it odd how they were fixating so much on migrants receiving priority care, when other vulnerable groups such as homeless people and drug addicts would be receiving it, too.

Looking at this as an Anglo-Israeli, I just wonder what the response would be if this were in an Israeli paper... But Israelis know that our hospitals are disproportionally staffed by Arab/Palestinian-Israelis, so it wouldn't fly... Isn't that the case in the UK with migrants working in the NHS?

I'd bet one reason why migrant health outcomes are worse than the general population's is 'cos the requirement to disclose health conditions for visa renewal - gives a powerful reason to avoid regular and preventative healthcare like the plague.
You can't be made to disclose what you don't know.

I certainly avoided getting healthcare as much as possible while in the U.K. because of that - and even once one has a 'secure' status - those habits don't just go away. They become engrained: you get used to just 'living with it' - until sometimes you're not, I guess.

And additionally there are so many reasons why people seeking protection are likely to have highly specialised health care needs. I mean - just for starters - injuries from torture often require specialist care.
