I think draconian and arbitrary criminal punishments for large numbers of irregular arrivals would have some impact on arrivals. But it's an appalling response to deaths in the channel to try and make the UK more unsafe for refugees.

Nothing on improving outcomes through the asylum process, addressing integration needs, working rights, nothing on processing, support or representation, eye watering costs of privatisation, accommodation standards, safe routes.

It’s merely a continuation of failed Tory policies, minus Rwanda, of border fortification which have already led to record killings at our border & more criminalisation which always targets refugees not smugglers.

Another vigil here in Calais tonight Lou. We remembered a young man (we believe from Sudan) now dead- thought to have fallen from a lorry trying to seek safety in the UK. Another killing as a result of deadly anti-immigration policy.
