Visited the Grande Lunette at Paris Observatory during our JWST meeting today - this 1891 refractor is apparently 3rd (or 4th) largest in the world after Yerkes and Lick. The telescope made the first observations of Uranus' retrograde spin (1902) and disproved the idea of Martian canals (1909). 🔭
