Why does no one ever talk about the fact we as taxpayers are essentially subsidizing huge companies labor forces? Where do most immigrants work? Construction and farms, who owns the biggest of both? Bill gates a major democratic donor. Why not talk about the labor dilution it brings?

It's more complicated than that, though I also object to the corporate line on immigration ("they do jobs Americans won't do"). Immigrants w/o rights, including those on restricted visas (not just undocumented), reduce pay and working conditions in some areas/sectors. But overall they don't. (1/2)

Chloe East's research, for example, found that deporting immigrants had a negative effect on wages/employment of other workers, and it was a careful study that teased out causality taking advantage of the fact that the deportation program's implementation was staggered across counties. (2/2)

No matter what research about wages says it’s objectively wrong you and I have to pay taxes to the government that gets given to immigrants so that companies like Berkshire don’t need to pay there employees an actual living wage while the owners collect billions.

If a company can’t pay a living wage to its employees it shouldn’t operate. Walmart is another great example. If they can’t pay their employees a living wage then it should just be dollar generals for convenience and Amazon for other items. Obviously there’s issues with Amazon aswell but those

I agree that taxpayers subsidize low-wage employers whose workers rely on public benefits. *However* this is not true of unauthorized immigrants, who pay more in taxes than they receive in services and benefits, because they are ineligible for most. (1/2)

State & local govts can experience temporary fiscal imbalances b/c unauthorized immigrants are eligible for K-12 schooling & emergency healthcare & sometimes other benefits. But overall unauthorized immigrants reduce the federal + state + local tax burden on other Americans. (2/2)
