US beach towns could learn something from the street usage and hierarchy in Nice, France. Pedestrian promenades, bike lanes, gardens, sidewalks, and a single lane of traffic. No parking, except underground.

This is along the front in St Kilda in Melbourne Australia. This serves people in richer suburbs along the bay. To add insult to injury there’s an even bigger road not too far inland heading to the same suburbs.
