Hung out watching friends play sonic adventure and realized I enjoy sa1 more than 2. 2 is great but 1 has such intentional whimsy and style to its world. It's like a day in the life, whereas sa2 is a very special character story. Even the gamefeel/level design pushes the free vs linear aspect - ThreadSky

same!! sa1's entire vibe is immaculate honestly. it's why i love blue and white/clouds and the sky so much. makes me think of SA1 and the dreamcast altogether

Another thing I feel is that SA1 fits really well as a continuation of the Megadrive games while SA2 doesn't. You have really weird world-building that fits a bit awkwardly with what came before like Knux just being in a random place with the master emerald or the GUN military aspect

also the hub worlds are so fun to just run around in. much better for them to be second to levels. unlike frontiers, where the hub world is the main gameplay and levels are second. both cool games but sonic team nailed it in their first try at 3d sonic.

One of my favorite details of SA1 is all the little plotlines that the Station Square and Mystic Ruins NPCs have that you can tune into as the main story progresses. It adds so much life to the world even if it's a tiny detail that a lot of players don't see very much of

sa2's world relies on fulfilling SHADOW'S story, the levels feel a little bleaker and serious to accomplish that. sa1 is like a playground where it's really clear the devs were having a blast coming up with different things to find and do in sonic's world that support 6 separate short stories

I'm rambling at this point but s3&k and sa1 are probably tied for me as favorite sonic game. Just feels like it oozes love in its jank and is a great aesthetic mix of that genesis game stylization and 3d realism
